Our three-week Summer Youth Dance Program, specifically designed for younger dancers, offers small classes and three placement levels to maximize opportunities for individual attention. Youth Dancers experience a full range of classes—ballet technique, pointe or pre-pointe, variations, modern, jazz, and yoga—taught by a faculty of world- renowned dance educators. The program ends with a final showcase open to family and friends. Students can attend as day students or boarders.
The Summer Dance Program is a five-week, pre-professional boarding and day intensive designed for the serious dancer. In this comprehensive ballet-based program, students take daily classes, including pointe and variations, modern, jazz, men’s technique, character, Pilates, and TRX Suspension Training. Students also learn about related topics such as injury prevention and stage lighting. Our faculty is comprised of world-renowned educators who have enjoyed careers as professional dancers. The program culminates in a repertory performance open to family and friends.
The Summer Theater Program’s unique combination of studio classes and professionally mounted stage productions allows students to both develop their craft and apply their skills in performance. During the four-week boarding program, each student takes daily classes in acting, musical theater, and dance and is cast in a play and a musical. Class sizes are intentionally small, affording students individualized attention and a supportive environment in which to develop and strengthen their work. In the latter weeks of the program, students take the stage for public performances of the shows that they have been rehearsing; past productions have included Nice Work If You Can Get It, Xanadu, As You Like It, and Love and Information.
Summer Visual Art is a three-week day program designed for students interested in refining their skills in visual art while exploring new techniques. This intensive program features a range of courses in ceramics, traditional and digital collage, sculpture, and painting and drawing.
The program takes place in Walnut Hill’s Dartley Visual Art Center and utilizes the School’s wide range of studio spaces. Classes are taught by diverse and talented faculty members who have experience working with students at the K–12 and college levels. Building a strong portfolio while spending time on the details to create an impressive body of work is our main focus. At the close of the program, students display their artwork in a formal gallery exhibition for family and friends.
