The Walnut Hill School for the Arts Summer Youth Dance Intensive is designed for serious male and female dancers, ages 10-14. Students experience a full range of classes including ballet technique, pointe or pre-pointe, variations, modern, eurythmics and jazz taught by our faculty of world renowned dance educators. The curriculum for each level is designed to give dancers the greatest opportunity for growth and individual attention. Students can attend the full six week session or either of the three week sessions as a day or boarding student. Each session ends with a final presentation open to family and friends.
Upon arrival, students take a placement class to determine their level. Placement is at the sole discretion of the Program Director and determined by technical ability and physical strength.
Students participate in daily ballet technique classes, as well as a selection of additional classes in pointe or pre-pointe, modern, jazz, character, choreography, and variations. In addition to eight hours of dance classes Monday through Friday, students participate in weekday evening workshops and have additional classes and rehearsals on Saturday.
During the week, boarding students participate in RA-sponsored campus activities and chaperoned walking tours to explore Natick Center. On Sundays boarding students go on chaperoned field trips around the greater Boston area. Past trips have included travel to a nearby coastal city, mall, and/or amusement park. Day Students are welcome to participate in all Sunday field trip activities for an additional fee.
All dancers interested in attending the Walnut Hill School for the Arts Summer Youth Dance Intensive must complete an audition to be considered for the program. Live auditions consist of a ninety minute ballet class including barre and center work. Students will be evaluated based on technical ability, strength, and potential. Previous pointe experience is NOT required. If unable to attend a live audition, students may submit a recorded audition using Slideroom. All digital auditions should be received by March 31, 2020.
