Walnut Hill School for the Arts

July 27 - 31, 2020

This workshop will focus on the integration of various somatic principles and techniques to support alignment, embodiment, strength, clarity of movement and pedagogy. Somatic intelligence allows us to experience our full physical being. It supports us so that we can interface our internal perspective with external circumstance. The somatic and academic techniques explored in this intensive are maps that function toward the achievement of embodied pedagogical skills. Body intelligence is a means of centering the mind, living in the body and becoming fully present to oneself and others.

Join us for a week of exploration using varied maps of somatic work to support your personal practice while enhancing your teaching skills. All classes are taught by experts in their specific field designed to support educators in several ways.

  • If we are striving for a pedagogical ideal of preparing dancers to inhabit moments of action, to be embodied in space, and to connect to each other when executing movement as a group, then these maps will help to generate ideas for the educator.
  • If we are focusing on readiness to engage the room as well as leading the teaching artist towards the deepening of their personal practice, then the course will bring regeneration and preparedness through new understanding and learning.

The curriculum brings together practice and theory of several somatic disciplines
