Music Classes & Band Programs
In accordance with Massachusetts State Public Health Guidelines music production classes will be taught online. We are following updates from state and local health officials and will move to in-person classes when guidelines allow.
Music Production in Ableton Live - Age 11+
This course is designed for musicians who are interested in music production, sound design, or using software as an instrument. The Ableton Live Software was one of the first Audio workstations designed to be a performance instrument in itself rather than an emulation of a hardware studio environment. This Music Production class is designed to stimulate creativity and imagination and lay the foundation for using the software as a personal instrument and production environment. Students will complete the class with an understanding of the frequency spectrum and how it relates to music, sampling sounds, grid editing, and basic sound synthesis. Anyone with a basic knowledge of computers and a desire to make music can take this course.
Band & Singer-Songwriter Classes will begin when state and local guidelines allow in-person, on campus group music programming.
Band Program - Age 11+
Whether you’re interested in Jazz, Rock or Pop our band program allows you to work with like minded musicians of similar ability in a collaborative musical environment. Each band has a maximum of 3-5 students and is coached by one faculty member. Instructors guide the group as they choose and rehearse songs from a wide range of styles and genres. Working together as a member of a band offers students a well-rounded experience that provides the essential tools for performers in any genre. Students interested in playing in our band program should have completed 2-3 years of private instruction and enroll in a 30 minute private lesson on their primary instrument. Students who sing and play an instrument in our band program are encouraged to also consider a 30 minute voice lesson.
Singer / Songwriting Program - Age 11+
Working exclusively with single faculty member students will go through the basics of songwriting; song structure, melody and basic music theory, lyric writing and finding inspiration. We cover song and lyric writing techniques, instrument practice, performance techniques, arrangement considerations, content creation, band rehearsal, and recording considerations. Students will work on their craft through four modules: Create, Prepare, Present, and Record. The class will culminate with a recording session of the song(s) written throughout the program. At the end of the program you’ll receive a professional copy of your recording. This program is perfect for individual musicians or fully formed bands who are interested in bringing their original music to life. Students interested in playing in our band program should have completed 2-3 years of private instruction and enroll in a 30 minute private lesson on their primary instrument.
