Postgraduate Audition and Portfolio Intensive

For those seeking an educational gap year between high school and post-secondary studies, Walnut Hill offers a Postgraduate Gap Year for students to study intensively and prepare audition and portfolio materials. Music, Dance, Visual Art, Theater, and WFMA (Writing, Film & Media Arts) disciplines maintain a focused curricula, emphasizing arts training in preparation for post-secondary studies. English Language Learning (ELL) courses are also offered as an optional add-on in the Postgraduate Gap Year.

When not practicing their art, postgraduate students are afforded the unique opportunity to make time for internships and network at neighboring arts institutions, getting an early lead on delving into the arts world ahead of college.

Walnut Hill’s Postgraduate Gap Year is the only one of its kind in New England and the only one in a US metropolitan area.

As a postgraduate student at Walnut Hill, you will:

  • have easy access to Boston’s cultural institutions and all that the city has to offer.
  • be able to get an arts internship in the Boston metropolitan area.
  • be able to attend arts events (concerts, exhibitions) in Boston on a regular basis.
  • be given expanded practice room and studio space.
  • only be required to take major-specific courses (academic courses can be taken optionally)
  • be given a single room in one of Walnut Hill’s campus dormitories.

essential preparation for the student who seeks
admittance into the top arts institutions. At
Walnut Hill, you’ll be perfectly positioned to
apply to the world’s elite art schools, colleges, and
conservatories.

Tuition

Tuition for the Postgraduate Gap Year is unbundled. The base option is an intensive arts curriculum, and additional academic and ELL classes can be added on à la carte. As a result, the base tuition costs less than our regular high school program.

Admission & Requirements

Before an offer of admission, the prospective student/family must have a conversation with College Counseling. Students must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent before entering the PG program. Students can not use Walnut Hill as a “credit recovery” for graduation purposes. Postgraduate students will earn a Walnut Hill postgraduate certificate. 

Postgraduate students must be under the age of 21 at the time of graduation.
