All students applying to the Theater Department must complete an audition. Auditions generally occur between October and late January for students applying for the Priority deadline of January 15.

Auditions after February 1 will be offered as space is available.

Theater applicants must prepare one monologue, and one16-32 bar (1-2 minutes), section of a song. You may dress casually, and in clothes that allow freedom of movement. There will be a brief question and answer session before you present your pieces.

Song and Monologue Guidelines

Monologue Guidelines

  • The monologue must be memorized, and chosen from a published play. Please do not use poems, or material from a one-person show. The monologue should be no longer than two minutes.
  • Please try to read the entire play, and be familiar with what is happening in the scene the monologue is taken from.

Song Guidelines

  • The16-32 bar (1-2 minutes), section of a song must be memorized, and chosen from the musical theater repertoire
  • The song may be sung a cappella, or with recorded accompaniment on a phone or CD. Sound equipment will be provided, though you may bring your own
  • Familiarity with the production the song is from is not necessary, though it may help you feel more confident in your presentation.

Digital Audition Submissions

If unable to attend a live audition, students may submit a recorded audition using Slideroom. Digital audition submissions should follow the same guidelines as listed above, along with a “slate” at the beginning of each piece. Please state your name, title and playwright for the monologue, and the title and show for the song.
