Orientation 2020

The majority of orientation will take place online throughout the summer, starting in late July.

The goal of orientation is to help you learn the resources of the school, understand our new program for 2020–2021, receive technology training and build community connections.

For students participating in the Walnut Hill Hybrid Program, we will have additional required in-person orientation events for both day and boarding students after your on-campus registration day. Please check the Welcome(back) page for orientation updates over the coming weeks.

Provisions For Recent Travel Restrictions
Based on the August 1 travel guidelines issued by Governor Baker Walnut Hill has implemented the following:

  1. We strongly encourage all families from outside Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, and Hawaii to get a COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to arrival on campus.
    • The test cannot be the antigen test. It must be a PCR test.
    • Even if you will not get your results prior to campus arrival, having a test done may lessen the required on-campus quarantine.
    • You will need to bring your negative test results to your health screening.
    • If the test results are positive, do not come to campus. Contact Health Services at nurses@walnuthillarts.org, and we will work with you to determine when it is safe for you to arrive on campus.

  2. Upon arrival to campus students from outside Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, and Hawaii will be quarantined in their dorm room unless they have proof of a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to arrival.
    • Students will stay in their rooms at all times except to use the restroom which must be done one student/time with masks on except for showering and brushing teeth. Dorm parents will facilitate schedules.
    • Food and beverages will be delivered for all scheduled meals directly to student rooms.
    • Students will be participating remotely in the program until negative test results are received.

  3. All students from outside Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, and Hawaii who do not come with a negative COVID-19 test (or proof that they are waiting for test results) will be tested on campus on Sunday, August 23. The cost of $150 will be billed to families.
    • We do not know the time frame for test results to be returned. While the provider has stated 48 to 72 hours with the increase in required testing we believe it may be 10 to 14 days.
    • Students will continue in-room quarantine, as discussed above, until negative test results are returned.
    • Students will participate remotely in the program until negative test results are received.
    • Parents will be alerted as soon as test results are received.
      • Any positive results will follow Walnut Hill’s COVID-19 Plan including appropriate quarantining, contact tracing and cleaning/disinfecting.

  4. All families arriving from outside Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, and Hawaii must complete the Massachusetts Travel Form.

As always we will continue to monitor all state and local guidelines as the community’s health and safety is our top priority. We will alert you to any program and policy changes, including the need to go fully remote at any point during the year, as soon as possible.
