The school values and encourages all faculty and staff to pursue professional development opportunities both inside and outside of school and to share their learnings with the Walnut Hill community. Faculty and staff returning from professional development activities, seminars, and meetings/conferences have given presentations, taught lessons, and run hands-on activities with colleagues in various formats during faculty and staff meetings.
School-wide professional development funds are available through the Professional Development Committee made up of a rotating group of faculty and staff members, as well as the Head of School, the Assistant Head of School, and the Artistic and Academic Directors.
SEED: SEEKING EDUCATIONAL EQUITY AND DIVERSITY
The National SEED Project for Inclusive Curriculum developed at the Wellesley Centers for Women at Wellesley College is a peer-led professional development program that creates conversational communities that drive personal, organizational, and societal change toward greater equity and diversity. Facilitated by the Director of Diversity & Inclusion, the school offers a monthly SEED program for Faculty and Staff, and for Senior Administrators. Walnut Hill offers group health insurance coverage offering a wide range of benefits and coverage for eligible employees and their families. The school contributes 60% of the premium for individual, employee +1, and family coverage. The health plan comes with access to health and wellness deals exclusive to members.
Walnut Hill offers a comprehensive dental plan designed to help offset the cost of diagnostic and preventative dental care along with some restorative care. The plan includes a $2,000 calendar-year benefit maximum for dental benefits and a $2,000 lifetime benefit maximum for orthodontic benefits. The school contributes 60% of the premium for individual, employee +1, and family coverage.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT (FSA) AND DEPENDENT CARE ACCOUNT (DCA)
This plan allows employees to make pre-tax contributions through payroll deductions to set aside income to pay for health, dental, vision, and dependent care expenses during the plan year.
The school offers a voluntary vision plan with access to a comprehensive network with discounts on providers and cost savings on frames, contacts, LASIK procedures, and more. Employees pay the full cost of vision coverage through pre-tax premium deductions through payroll.
LIFE INSURANCE & EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The school provides group-term life and AD&D insurance at a value of 1x basic salary to all benefit eligible employees. Membership also includes access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offering an array of confidential services to help employees with guidance around the challenges that life, work, and relationships may bring. This plan is provided at no cost to the employee.
The school provides Long-Term Disability insurance to all benefit eligible employees. LTD begins 90 days after an employee becomes disabled and provides 60% of an employee’s base salary per the plan document and regulations.
The school offers Short Term Disability to all benefit eligible employees who have completed one full year of employment. The STD schedule of benefits is based on years of service and can be found in the Employee Handbook.
RETIREMENT PLAN & EMPLOYER MATCH – 403(B)
Eligible employees may participate in the Walnut Hill tax-deferred 403(b) retirement plan through TIAA. The school will match eligible employee contributions up to a maximum of 7% according to the schedule found in the Employee Handbook.
All employees are eligible to participate in a voluntary pet insurance plan through Nationwide. Multiple options and coverage levels are available. Employees are responsible for the full cost of this plan and enroll directly through Nationwide.
DINING, FITNESS, & PERFORMANCES
All Walnut Hill employees enjoy daily access to our full-service dining hall while school is in session. The dining hall serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and hot and cold beverages to faculty, staff, and students. Employees may utilize the school Fitness Center and receive two complementary tickets to all performances and are encouraged to attend and support our student artists.
