Audiences of all ages will enjoy this charming opera, based on the well known fairy tale of Cinderella. Cendrillon is sung in English, with English text subtitles displayed. Run time is one hour.

Music and original French text by Pauline Viardot
English translation by Rachel M. Harris
Orchestration for piano and string quartet by Charles Effler

Pauline Viardot enjoyed a successful career as an esteemed composer, pianist, opera singer and voice teacher. Although her name may not be as familiar today as her male peers, Liszt, Chopin, Berlioz, Faure and Meyerbeer, her body of work deserves equal renown. Perhaps most recognized today for her dramatic and beautiful art songs, she also composed operettas, chamber music, and piano works.  As with most of Viardot's vocal music, this chamber opera was composed with her students' voices in mind.

Celebrating this extraordinary female composer, we are pleased to present an almost exclusively female production. Our all-female performers include a talented cast of Voice Majors, the string quartet of Music Majors as our orchestra, and four Dance Majors from Boston Ballet School’s Professional Division at Walnut Hill. Our creative team is led by Director and Head of Voice, Teresa Winner Blume, with Vocal Coach and Music Director Elaine Smith-Purcell and Guest Conductor Stephanie Beatrice. Ballroom choreography by Guest Artist Melinda Sullivan. Costume design by Danielle Domingue-Sumi. Set and lighting design by Zachary Ahmad-Kahloon.
