Language Placement
Dear New Student:
On behalf of the World Languages Department, welcome to Walnut Hill School. As part of your preparation for the start of school next fall, you will need to take a foreign language placement test if you would like to study French or Spanish at Walnut Hill next year.
The test will facilitate the most accurate French or Spanish placement possible for you, according to your acquired knowledge and abilities. The purpose of this test is to place you in the proper level, thereby ensuring that you will not be too challenged nor too frustrated in your language studies. You are not allowed to receive any help from others in taking the test, including consulting grammar books, dictionaries, native-speakers, and the like. Further, there is no advantage to receiving help from others because such assistance would only skew your results and place you in a class that would be too difficult for you. Also, if for some reason your test result does not appear to be accurate, you will be moved up or down, as necessary, in the first week of school.
The French and Spanish placement tests are available online. You must take the placement test in order to study a language at Walnut Hill next September. The placement test contains questions on grammar, vocabulary and comprehension. The test should not take you more than an hour to complete.
To download the test, you will need the username and password that was sent to you by mail. Please download the PDF of the placement test, print a copy and then handwrite your answers on that copy. After you have taken the test, please mail your completed test to:
Walnut Hill School
Attn: Angela Stucchi
12 Highland Road
Natick, MA 01760
Your completed test must be postmarked by August 9, 2010. Also, please do not forget to sign the pledge on the bottom of the test stating that you have completed the test without seeking any help.
Very truly yours,
Raymonde Arseneau
