Since 1988, Jim Woodside has served as Director of Visual Art at Walnut Hill.  Woodside has exhibited his paintings throughout the U.S. and as far away as the American Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam. In 2003, he was selected as a National Science Foundation grant recipient and painted in Antarctica through the auspices of their Artists & Writers Program. For four consecutive years, he has traveled to the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, China as a guest instructor in their drawing classes.
 
As a visiting artist and guest lecturer, Woodside has presented at numerous colleges and secondary schools, including Harvard University, The Juilliard School, The Maryland Institute College of Art, and Phillips Exeter Academy. His artwork was featured in a 2007 issue of American Artist Magazine. He was also a participant in the Independent Study Program at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
