Dear Parents:
We are writing to introduce ourselves as the Co-Chairs of the Walnut Hill Parents’ Association for the 2007-2008 school year. Our daughter Tory is a junior Theatre major.
The Parents’ Association is the vehicle by which we all support the school, the Head of School, and the faculty and provide input on issues that are important to the administration. Our meetings this year will be held in the late afternoon of the travel days for boarding students so that parents of boarding students can attend. The first meeting will be held during Family Weekend.
At our first meeting, Stephanie Perrin, Head of School, and the department Deans attend to give us insight into the activities on campus. We start the meeting with some light dinner. The first hour’s agenda is regular business and the second hour is for getting to know each other and exploring relevant topics. If you’re interested in being on a committee to bring in speakers or in being a speaker yourself, please contact us.

The Parents’ Association collects a fee from its members to provide funds for school activities not covered by other budgets. This year the fee will be $50 and will be billed on your October statement. If this presents a hardship, please call Martha Kleinman at 508-650-5061. We hope that we will have a 100% response rate. We also raise additional funds through the sale of drinks and snacks at Keiter Theater and the sale of flowers for ballet performances at Keiter. Please join us and help out in those areas when your schedule permits.

A strong vibrant school community relies on the best efforts of everyone involved. Please volunteer for one or several committees if you can. Some of the activities such as serving at Keiter and the Faculty and Staff Appreciation activities require the support of many parents so that the workload will be manageable for the co-chairs. Serving on the committees is a greatway to meet other parents, support the faculty and staff who are giving their all to our children and of course…to get the lowdown from other parents about what people are saying about your kid.

We are looking for co-chairs for all the committees for several reasons: Many hands make light work and two chairs will also ease transitions in the coming years. If you have any special talents or gifts with which to support the school, please speak up and let us know so we can use those gifts to enrich the Walnut Hill Community.
We hope everything is off to a great start for your artists. We are very excited about building community for the parents as we know well how disconnected from the school you may feel at times. The best antidote of course is to get involved. We look forward to meeting all of you during Family Weekend.
