September 2010
Dear Walnut Hill Parents,
Welcome to all parents—new, returning, local, national and international—from the Walnut Hill Parents Association.
The WHPA is open to all parents of Walnut Hill Students. You are cordially invited to our meetings throughout the school year. We will have weekend meetings again this year, and we plan to have electronic access as well.
Our first meeting will be during the Family Weekend in October. It will be an informal barbecue for families and students. Look for details in the Family Weekend mailing later this month.
PURPOSE AND ACTIVITIES
The purpose of our association is to foster communication, participation, and fellowship among parents, and to support the programs and activities of Walnut Hill. We provide input to the administration and the faculty on matters of importance to the parents and students.
In doing so throughout the academic year, the Association supports a wide variety of activities including:
Faculty and Staff Appreciation Days
Art Show Receptions
Cast Parties and Parent Receptions after performances
Discretionary Fund for the Head of School
Student Awards Night Party
Student Scholarships
Library Volunteers
Keiter Café and Performance Flower Sales
Campus Beautification
WHPA Newsletters
We will be submitting articles to the new In a Nutshell newsletters throughout the year to provide you with Information-that-you-would-have-wanted-to-know, but Didn’t-know-enough-to-ask (until your son or daughter told you the day before it was needed).

FEES
The school collects a fee of $50 from all parents to cover the WHPA activities. We earn additional funds through the sale of refreshments at the Keiter Café and flowers during ballet and theatre performances. The funds are used to support students and staff in many ways. Please contact us with any ideas you have!
MEETINGS
Please join us for the first WHPA meeting during Family Weekend. It promises to be a great kick-off for the year! Our meetings will have a brief business meeting as well as time for informal discussion. We also plan to have an administrator, faculty member or other guest speaker. If you have ideas for speakers and topics, or would like to be considered as a speaker, please let us know.
To have a strong and vibrant parent community, we need the efforts and talents of all members. Please consider volunteering for a committee. Some of the activities, such as serving at the Keiter Cafe and supporting the Faculty and Staff Appreciation events, require only a few hours of time. Volunteering is a great way to meet other parents, to support the faculty and staff -- and to see your son or daughter with their friends on campus. If you have any special talents or gifts that could support the school, please let us know so that you can help enrich the Walnut Hill Community.
I look forward to meeting you throughout the year. If you would like to speak to me for any reason, please call or send an e-mail.
With my best wishes,
LisaDawn Rounds
