Theater Audition Requirements

All students applying to the Theater Department must complete an audition to be evaluated by a member of the artistic faculty. Auditions generally occur between October and late January for students applying for the Priority deadline of January 15. Auditions after February 1 will be offered as space is available.

To schedule an audition, please contact the Admission Office at 508.650.5020 or admissions@walnuthillarts.org. Applicants are encouraged to make arrangements at least four weeks in advance.

Theater applicants must prepare one monologue and one song (not exceeding a total length of four minutes).

Song and Monologue Guidelines

Monologue Guidelines

  • Monologue must be memorized
  • Monologue must be chosen from plays. Do not use poems or material from a one-person show. Pieces from monologue books are only acceptable if the monologue is from a published, full-length (one act or longer) play
  • If selection is from a monologue book, be sure to read the entire play and understand the given circumstances of the monologue
  • Try to choose a monologue in which you speak directly to one other person

Song Guidelines

  • The song must be memorized
  • The song must be chosen from the musical theater repertoire
  • The song may be accompanied by a CD or sung a cappella
  • Familiarity with the production the song is from is not necessary

Digital Audition Submissions

If unable to attend a live audition, students may submit a recorded audition using Slideroom. Digital audition submissions should follow the same guidelines as listed above.
